The import of machinery/equipment/raw materials and packaging materials by business units from third countries must be approved by the government. They must obtain an import license from the Department of Trade (DoT), Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment (MoICE). 

 

However, issuance of import licenses by DoT, MoICE is subject to the recommendation from the Department for the industries (Cottage, Small, Medium and Large). Thus, the Department facilitates the import of machinery/equipment, raw materials (including packaging materials), spares, parts, accessories, lubricants, and second-hand raw materials (HDPE bags) required for the smooth functioning of all industries irrespective of the scale of business (M&L and CSI)  from India and other countries. 

Application Process and Required Documents:
1. For import of raw materials (including packaging materials), machines, spares, parts, and accessories:
- Apply via www.btfn.bt

2. For import of lubricants and second-hand raw materials (HDPE bags):
- An application addressed to the Chief Industries Officer, Department of Industry, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment.
