The Department of Industry under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment, in collaboration with a local entrepreneur, has established a CSI Market in Samdrupjongkhar town.
The main objective of establishing the CSI Market is to enhance market access for Made in and Grown in Bhutan products – one of the main barriers that hampers growth and development of CSIs. It will provide a dedicated platform for CSIs products, particularly for those in the East and South, to showcase and sell their products. It would encourage CSIs to enhance value addition, upscale and generate employment opportunities in the country.
The CSI Market was officially opened on 30 December 2024 by Dasho Dzongdag of Samdrup Jongkhar. Local entrepreneurs and Dzongkhag officials attended the event.
The private Operator of the CSI Market will act as an important aggregator and benefit individual CSIs who are spread in far-flung areas. The market will not only promote CSI products in the domestic market but also explore and capture opportunities in international markets in the future. It is a case of the initiative of a public-private partnership with the Department providing initial support for the establishment of the market and the private sector managing the operations. The CSI Market in Samdrupjongkhar was established under ADB TA improving market linkages for CSIs.
CSIs wishing to supply their products to the market may contact the Operator @ 17114530.
